Damage Control

Bad things happen in three's right? I hope so, because I don't know how much more can go wrong! I guess it all started Friday morning. It was my day off and I was looking forward to driving the kids to school. It's my one day where I get to go to their school in the morning and stand around a bit until the bell rings. I get to talk to some of the other parents and get to see the kids play before their day starts. On this particular day, we basically had no groceries in the house. I thought I'd get them a treat and we would run through the McDonald's drive-thru before school to grab some breakfast. The kids were super pumped! I pulled into the drive-thru. I was asking the kids what they wanted to eat when suddenly, I saw a bunch of smoke billowing out in front of me. At first I thought it was the vehicle in front of me, but it didn't take me too long to realize it was pouring out of my van. I threw the van in reverse; thank goodness there was no one behind me, and screeched out of the drive-thru. I pulled the van over into the parking lot and jumped out. I was yelling at the kids to get out of the van as fast as they could out of fear that the van was going to be engulfed in flames! Maybe just a little dramatic? I'm sure anyone who was watching thought I was some crazy woman! I called Matt who fortunately was still in town, and he came and took a look. The radiator hose had blown. My dad came to grab the kids to bring them to school for me while Matt drove the van to the repair shop. One mishap taken care of!
Today, while Matt had the kids at my parents to cut their lawn, I was doing the daily chores that need to get done. I had gone to the basement to throw on a load of laundry. While the clothes were in the washing machine, I was tidying up upstairs and getting things organized for tomorrow. Once the wash was complete, I went downstairs to throw the load into the dryer. I walked down the stairs, and was met with  a lake! Oh my goodness! There was water everywhere! The area carpet was sopping and as I stepped on it, my feet just squished in the water. It was running down the hall and into the bathroom. I did my best to clean up what I could, but had to call Matt and let him know what he was coming home to. Matt got home and had a look. He finished cleaning up the mess and had a look to see what the heck was wrong with the washing machine. It looks like we'll be calling in a plumber!!!! Man!!! We're trying to save for Disneyland and first we have the repair bill for the van and now we'll be paying a plumber! Gotta love it!
Anyways, I'm just waiting for bad thing number three to happen! Maybe it won't. I sure as heck hope it doesn't!!! I'm off now to get the kids tucked into bed. Matt's still downstairs doing some damage control. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day!

Sun Shiny Days!

The weekend is over! I can't believe that it's Sunday night already and the week will begin again. I've made lunches, school uniforms are laid out and the kids are tucked into their beds. They're not asleep yet, but they're in bed! This weekend seemed to go by in a blur. We spent the day today doing some spring cleaning and we also went out and got the kids a few summer clothes. Nothing too exciting today! Yesterday, Adam spent the day at his friend's house and we spent the day outside! The sun was shining and the day was beautiful! I love sun shiny days when we get to sit outside and play! I snapped a few photos of Anna and Caleb enjoying their time in the sun!

13 Years!

I3 years ago I got married! I can't believe that 13 years have passed and we are celebrating another anniversary! 13 years ago, the sun was shining and it was a gorgeous hot Saturday! I remember waking up on the morning of my wedding day and being so excited. I could not wait to start my life as Mrs. Jaime King!
I woke up and had a nice long bath. Me and my bridesmaids then went and got our hair done and came home to finish getting ready. The time couldn't go fast enough. When the time finally came for us to head to the church, the bridesmaids went in a vehicle, my mom went in one and my dad was driving me to the church in his truck. Matt and I did not have the money for limos or anything fancy, but I loved it! On the way to the church, it gave my dad and I some time to talk. My parents both loved Matt and I never felt that they thought I was making a wrong decision. During our conversation on the way to the church, my dad said to me 'it's not too late to turn around'. I know he did not mean it in the sense that he didn't like Matt or that he thought I shouldn't get married. He asked to make sure that I was one hundred percent sure in my decision and to let me know that he would support me in any decision that I made. I did not hesitate for a moment and told my dad to keep driving to the church! My dad was very happy with that decision!
I have not regretted my decision to go to the church and get married for a second! We have 3 beautiful kids together and have made a wonderful life! We still laugh together and have fun.We enjoy each others company and miss each other when we are not together. I feel very fortunate, that 13 years later, we still have an amazing relationship and we couldn't imagine being with anyone else! Happy Anniversary Matt!!!

Rainy Monday

The end of the long weekend is here. It's been a very rainy Monday and a great day to spend indoors. We spent a lot of the day curled up on couches in the living room watching old movies and drinking hot chocolate. What better way to spend a rainy Monday?
In the afternoon, the kids decided to brave the rain, and go outside! I snapped a few photos to capture the moment!

Trials and Tribulations

As I sit down at my computer today, I realize that I haven't talked lately about the secrets of a working mom. I haven't forged into the details of the trials, tribulations, frustrations, guilty feelings, jealousy of moms who get to stay home or the joys, the feelings of accomplishments; all of the different emotions that come with being a working mom. I try to stay positive and not dwell on the things that maybe are a bit more difficult or are not the way I would have things if I could live the perfect life. Being a mom is hard, probably the most difficult job in the world. You are responsible for raising other human beings. You are responsible for teaching your kids morals, respect, how to be contributing members of society. Along with this you are carting them to school, doctors and dentists appointments, school sports, after school sports, birthday parties; the list goes on and on. When you're a working mom, many times you are exhausted as you roll into the house at about 5:00, but you don't have an option to rest. I know for myself, as I pull into my driveway, I have to tell myself that it's time to not think about my day at work. It's time to focus on the kids and spend time with them. I walk in with a smile on my face and ask the kids how their day at school went. We then eat dinner, do the cleanup, start homework , and if the kids have any activities that day, we head off to that sport. The day continues until you no longer have an ounce of energy and you can't do anymore.
This weekend, being the long-weekend, I have made a point of not doing anything and not going anywhere! With Matt being away, I wanted to spend some quality time with the kids and it has been wonderful! My mom picked us up yesterday and we all went out to our local ice cream shop for some ice cream. We sat outside in the beautiful sunshine and just talked. After church today, the kids and I came home for a bit. While we were sitting on the couches in the living room, I decided to take them out for lunch. It's not very often that I have the opportunity to go out for lunch with just the kids and me! We sat there, over coke a cola and french fries, and talked about what they wanted to be when they grew up, talked about their friends at school and even talked about different universities that they want to go to after they graduate! It was so fun and I am so grateful that they are my kids!
As a working mom, I think it's so important to still stay involved in your kids' lives. It would be so easy to come home after work, lay on the couch and have no energy for them. That's not to say that I have never done that. There are days when exhaustion does over power some of my other responsibilities. On these days, I just explain to the kids that it was a hard day at work, and mom just needs a few minutes to rest. They're at an age where they understand and they give me some time alone just to regroup.
I have enjoyed spending the weekend alone with the kids. I have one more day to enjoy before the work week begins again. I am looking forward to tomorrow and what it brings. Once again, I haven't really delved into all of the emotions involved for me as a working mom! Some are good, some not so good! I guess those are the secrets of a working mom...

Long weekend

May long weekend! The unofficial beginning of summer and the weather is beautiful! Matt has gone fishing for the weekend, so it's me and the kids! We started the weekend with the kids having sleepovers. Everyone is home now and ready to enjoy the day in the backyard!
I'm thinking of starting some of my Spring cleaning today! I am planning on doing a complete overhaul on the house; bedrooms, closets and the basement. I don't know how much of that I'll actually accomplish, but I figure the thought is good and hopefully the motivation will come!
The other night, I decided to clean out my inbox in my email account, the beginning of my de-cluttering- I receive so many emails at work, that when I get home and look at my personal email, it can get overwhelming. I decided to delete every single email in my account. 7000 emails later and my inbox is clean!!! Now if I could just delete the mess in my house with a push of a button, my life would be made!
Lately the kids have been really into learning magic tricks. It's so amazing to watch their imaginations run wild and their concentration as they're learning new tricks. They have shown me how they can levitate, read my mind and turn one ball into two! They're actually getting quite good at their tricks!
Time for me to go outside with the kids! Hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday!

Alarm clock

9:07. 9:07 was the time that my alarm clock read as I opened my eyes this morning! I couldn't believe it. I don't remember the last time that I slept that late. It was wonderful! I love mother's day for that reason alone!
I got myself out of bed, dressed and had my coffee in hand. I sat down on the couch in the living room and the kids surrounded me with happy mother's day wishes and I love you's. They all had their hands behind their backs to give me their gifts! I love their excitement and enthusiasm before they hand me the gifts that they made. I was given a beautiful handmade picture, homemade flowers and a card. I love the thought that they put in these gifts and I always make sure to put them in my hope chest for years to come. After the gift exchange was over, it was time to start the day.
Anna hurt her wrist Friday evening while doing some gymnastic tricks in the backyard. I didn't think too much of it and thought the pain would go away. She woke up Saturday morning still complaining that it hurt.We had to go to bear creek for the track meet and Anna said she was fine to go. Off we went. During the meet, Anna hurt it even more. I was worried that she wouldn't be able to run her race, but she said she was fine. She's such a trouper! She ran her race, the whole while her wrist in agony. I told her that I would take her to the clinic that night. After bear creek, she needed to go to dance pictures. Once that was finished, she said her wrist was fine and she just wanted to go home. Everyone was exhausted, so I didn't push the issue which brings us to this morning.
Once I was organized for the day, Anna was still complaining about her wrist. Off to the clinic we went. We were at the clinic by about five after ten. We got in to see the doctor at about 11:00. He examined her wrist and said it most likely was a bad sprain, but that she needed to have x-rays done. Because the doctor was pretty sure it was just a sprain, he said the x-rays could wait until tomorrow. Thank goodness! I had to be home by 12:00 for a mother's day lunch at my house! We rushed out of the clinic, ran to the grocery store and walked in the house at twenty minutes to twelve! I did a quick clean, put the food out and took a breath! The guests had arrived! We had a great day enjoying the sun and enjoying each others company. Now I just need to figure out how to get Anna to have her x-rays done tomorrow?
Mother's Day is a day to honour your moms. I think it's also a day to appreciate the people in your lives. I am so thankful for my children and my husband. I'm also thankful for my parents, siblings, grandmother and extended family. This mother day, I focused on the wonderful people in my life. I enjoyed celebrating the day with my family, my siblings and their spouses, my parents and my grandmother. I didn't think about any guilty feelings I may be holding on to in regards to work and the craziness of our lives. Today I am proud to be a mom...a working mom at that! Happy Mother's Day!

Friday!

Friday! Thank goodness! It's been a crazy week, but a good week. Adam and Anna both had an overnight field trip on Wednesday to Victoria .They had to be on the bus Wednesday at 4 in the morning. I was tired to say the least! They got home last night around 7:15 and were so excited to show us the pictures they had taken. We had given them each some spending money. Adam came home with a gift for Caleb and Anna came home with a gift for me and Matt. It was so sweet!
We had all of the kids in bed by about 8:45. Adam had another field trip today. This time to UBC for a Science challenge and had to be up by 5:15! He's going to be tired tonight!
Tomorrow we'll be heading to Bear Creek Park for a track meet! I love going there and the kids have a blast! It has been difficult this year trying to figure out the schedule, though. The same day as the track meet, Adam was invited to a birthday party and Anna has dance pictures. We decided that it was more important for Adam to go to the track meet as he made a commitment to the team. He's fine with that and looking forward to his runs tomorrow. We are still trying to figure out what to do with Anna. Her pictures are at 1:30 so we're thinking of leaving a bit early from the meet so that she can be at her pics on time. She really wants to stay, though as the last event is the relay which she is in! Argh!!! I really don't like it when activities overlap!
Sunday is Mother's Day! I'm looking forward to sleeping in and having a day at home with my family! Enjoy the beautiful weekend!

Sunny Sunday!

What a fabulous day! The sun is shining and it is absolutley beautiful out! It's been an amazing weekend so far! On Friday, the kids had a tack meet and had a great time. Part of the reason they love going to track meets, is the concession stand. We had given them five dollars each to get themselves a little treat after their races. As soon as I got home from work, I asked them how they did. They all did great, but their first comments were, the concession was closed! Oh well! Next time! Their bus driver who had taken them to the meet is so awesome! On the way home, she pulled the big school bus into the Walmart parking lost, and got all of the kids a popsicle! So sweet!
Saturday was spent around the house getting things done. Adam had a friend over and everyone just played in the backyard. Saturday evening, I went out for dinner and drinks with my sister and a few friends. It was so nice to get out and chat with other women.
Today, we woke up with the sun streaming through our bedroom window! What a beautiful way to wake up. We had coffee on the deck, and the kids jumped on the trampoline. This afternoon, we're going for a fun photo shoot with my friend Lori, who is an amazing photographer! Check out her page!https://www.facebook.com/?ref=tn_tnmn#!/pages/Lori-Johnson-Photography/162584033819580 I am so excited about it! I will post pics when I get them!

Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! Enjoy the sun!!

Lovely Things!

It's Tuesday and I'm tired. The kids have been sick, our schedule has been crazy and work has been really busy. Looking beyond all of that, I decided to write a little post about lovely things that I enjoy! It's in no particular order, and there are lots of things that I haven't included, but here are some of the things that  make me smile!

1) Coffee-I LOVE coffee! I wake up to it every morning and without it, I would be lost! I love the smell of it brewing and love the taste of it first thing in the morning. Well, truthfully, I love the taste of it all day long. It's probably really unhealthy, but I basically live off of this stuff!

2) Flowers-I love flowers! I love when they start to bloom in the spring. I love how they smell and how pretty they look. I love flowers so much, I have a tattoo of flowers on my back!

3) Sunny days- Nothing beats waking up to a beautiful sun shiny day! I love the feeling of the warm sun on my face and I love sitting on my deck enjoying it!

4) Books- Reading has always been a favourite past time of mine. Lately, I haven't had the chance to read as much as I would like to. When I read, I get totally engrossed in it, and usually can't put it down until it's done. I think I am going to make more of an effort in the next few weeks to pick up a good novel and get lost in the story!

5) Wine- I truly enjoy sitting sometimes in the evening with Matt and having a glass of wine. In the summer time, we'll sit outside on our deck in the warm evenings. I'll have a glass of wine and Matt will have a beer. We'll sit there and play cards or just enjoy talking as we look at the stars. I think those are some my most favourite nights!

6) Music- I absolutely love listening to music! I usually have a favourite song of the moment that I will play over and over again until everyone is sick of it, except me! I blare the music in the car and make all of the kids belt out the tune with me. At home, I'll play music and dance around the living room begging my kids to dance with me! Most times, they give in and we have so much fun!

7) Reality T.V- Some people may think I'm crazy, but I love watching reality shows. I like watching other people and how they live and how they act. Sometimes I'm appalled at people's behaviour but I like that I can just sit back, watch and enjoy. I don't have to think about anything. It's just mindless television!

8) Shoes- I have an insane obsession with shoes! If I had a million dollars, that is one thing that I would definitely spend my money on! I have closets full of shoes. Many of them I no longer wear, but can't bear to part with. I love looking for unique, funky shoes that no one else really has. Matt always laughs at me because I always tell him that you can tell so much about a person just by the shoes that they're wearing.

9) Smiling- I love smiling and I love smiling, happy people. Yes, life can be hard and busy and chaotic and overwhelming and all of those things that make life hard. In the big scheme of things though, I think most of us have it pretty good! Try and put a smile on your face and it's amazing how many people will return the smile to you!

10) Volkswagens- VW's are my most favourite vehicle of all time!!! I was lucky enough to be a proud owner of a 1977 VW bus as well as a 1966 VW bus! I wish that I still had them!!! One day, I will have another one! Matt and I keep saying that when we win the lottery, we're getting one! I guess we just have to wait for the winning numbers!

That's just a few of the things I love and that make me happy! Overall, I try and make the best out of every situation! I love having fun with my family, friends, coworkers, kids. I love going out dancing, going for dinner, coffee or just for a walk. I love turning the mundane everyday routine into something fun and different.  I wonder what kind of list other people would have?
